Government unveils First Telemedicine Centre in Nigeria…
large-photo-medical-health-hipaa-dicom-hL7-pacs-networkThe efforts by the Federal Government to reduce capital flight occasioned by foreign medical treatment have received a boost with the unveiling of the first telemedicine centre in Nigeria.
The project, Dr. Hassan’s Clinic and Diagnostic Centre, Abuja, is a multi-disciplinary tertiary care with 65 beds, and emergency/trauma centre.
It was inaugurated by the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Mahesh Sachdev.
Sachdev revealed that the facility would assist in the transmission of data and holding teleconferences, through which doctors across the globe could access standardised treatment for a patient.
H also noted that the facility had great potential not only in the area of health care delivery, but also “in the cross-pollination of ideas and creating better comfort in medical tourism sector.”
He expressed the view that with the location of the facility in the Federal Capital Territory, it would save Nigerians from unnecessary overseas trips for initial consultations and for post-operation care.
“It could therefore give a level of assurance to the patient and also create familiarity between patient and doctors in India and also doctors of both countries,” the envoy stated.
The CEO of the Centre, Dr. Shabihul Hassan, said the idea behind the clinic was to cut the cost of specialised treatment and to also reduce capital flight.
